Meaning: Extremely dirty and unpleasant (of a place), especially as a result of poverty or neglect.

Synonyms: Dirty, filthy, grubby, grimy, mucky, slummy, foul, vile, poor, wretched, miserable, mean, seedy, shabby, sordid, insalubrious.

In Hindi: मलिन,  गंदा

Use: The homeless man had no choice but to sleep in squalid conditions.

The abandoned house was squalid and filled with rats.
