Meaning: Cast down in spirit or hope. Extremely bad, unpleasant, and degrading (of a situation or condition). Self abasing.

Synonyms: Wretched, miserable, hopeless, pathetic, pitiful, pitiable, piteous, sorry, woeful, lamentable, degrading, appalling, atrocious, awful.

In Hindi:  अधमदयनीय घृणित

Use: After his wife died, he was an abject man.

After losing the championship game, the team was in an abject mood.
