Meaning: A person holding an opinion at odds with what is generally accepted.

Synonyms: Dissenter, nonconformist, apostate, freethinker, iconoclast.

Use: We requires more heretics than mere Sheep-walkers to change the world.

Martin Luther was proclaimed a heretic for rejecting many of the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.

Galileo was condemned as a heretic for supporting Copernicus’s thesis that the earth revolves around the sun and not vice versa.
